Learning programming in 7th grade can be beneficial for a number of reasons. Programming requires a great deal of logical thinking and attention to detail. There are other ways to expose 7th graders to computer science, not just through programming. It can be a great way to spark an interest in computer science and technology.
Students could also learn how to use basic office software such as Microsoft Office and/or Google Docs to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations. The main topics that could be covered include Introduction to a specific programming language and its associated development environment, such as Scratch or Blockly.
