For triangle ADE, take side AD as the base:
Base = AD = 8 cm.
Vertex E lies on the opposite side BC. The perpendicular distance from E to AD equals the width of the rectangle, which is CD = 10 cm.
Height = 10 cm.
Area of triangle ADE = (1/2) x base x height = (1/2) x 8 x 10 = 40 cm².
