A rain gauge measures how much rain falls at a location. It has a funnel, a measuring tube, and a scale. Rainwater is collected in the cylinder and its height on the scale tells the rainfall amount in millimetres, like 5 mm or 30 mm.

    1. A rain gauge is used to measure the amount of rainfall. It consists of a funnel that directs rainwater into a cylindrical measuring tube with a scale. When it rains, water is collected in the cylinder, and the height of the water column indicates the rainfall in millimetres. For example, 30 mm of rain means the collected water level was 30 millimetres high. Rain gauges are placed in open areas to ensure accurate measurement, away from obstructions.
