  1. Contaminated food and water can carry harmful bacteria or viruses. Diseases like cholera, typhoid, hepatitis A and ascariasis are caused this way. These germs affect the stomach, liver and intestines. Drinking boiled water, eating clean and properly cooked food and washing hands before meals help stop their spread. Poor sanitation and open defecation make the problem worse. Clean water and personal hygiene are key to preventing such diseases.
