Define ionisation energy. How would the ionisation energy change when electron in hydrogen atom is replaced by a particle of mass 200 times that of the electron but having the same charge?

Ionisation energy of an atom is defined as the energy required to remove an electron from ground state energy level to its free state.
Ionisation energy of hydrogen is E = + me⁴/ 8€o²n²h² = + 13.6 eV .

  1. Ionization energy is the energy required to remove an electron from an atom in its ground state. Replacing the electron with a 200-times heavier particle would significantly increase ionization energy, as reduced mass and energy levels increase.
