The cell theory was proposed by Schleiden and Schwann in 1839, postulating that all living beings are composed of cells and their products. In 1855, Rudolf Virchow modified the cell theory with his postulate, “Omnis cellula-e-cellula”, which means, a new cell is derived from a pre-existing cell only.
