Communicable diseases spread through harmful microbes called pathogens—bacteria, viruses, fungi or protozoa. These pathogens enter our body through air, water, food or contact and cause illnesses like cold, flu, typhoid or measles.

  1. Communicable diseases are always caused by pathogens—tiny disease-causing organisms like viruses, bacteria, fungi or worms. These germs invade the body and disturb its normal functions. They spread through air, water, food or direct contact. Diseases like flu, COVID-19, tuberculosis and chickenpox are examples. Knowing that pathogens cause these diseases helps us take precautions like handwashing, wearing masks and getting vaccinated to stay protected.
