A body is thrown vertically upward with velocity u, the greatest height h to which it will rise is:
Given, initial velocity = u, height = h and a = g.
At the highest point, the final velocity becomes zero, i.e., v = 0.
From the third equation of motion,
V² = U² – 2gh
0 = u² – 2gh
2gh = u²
h = u²/2 g
Here we have used negative sign because the body is moving against gravity.
