The functional unit of nervous tissue is the neuron, which is capable of receiving, integrating, and transmitting signals.

Nerve cells transmit signals through the generation and propagation of electrical impulses known as nerve impulses or action potentials.

The axon is responsible for transmitting nerve impulses away from the cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands.

Nervous tissue comprises neurons, which are specialized cells for transmitting signals, and supporting cells called neuroglia.

The primary function of nervous tissue is to respond to stimuli and transmit signals rapidly within the body.
