Watershed Management: Watershed management refers to the comprehensive and sustainable planning, conservation, and utilization of land and water resources within a specific watershed. A watershed is an area of land where all the water that falls or drains into it ultimately flows to a common outlet, such as a river, lake, or ocean. Watershed management involves the integrated management of soil, water, vegetation, and other natural resources within the watershed to achieve ecological, economic, and social objectives.

    Advantages of Watershed Management:

1.) Water Conservation and Quality Improvement:

Prevention of Erosion: Watershed management practices, such as afforestation and soil conservation measures, help prevent soil erosion. This, in turn, reduces sedimentation in water bodies, maintaining water quality and preventing the degradation of aquatic ecosystems.

Groundwater Recharge: By controlling runoff and promoting infiltration, watershed management contributes to the recharge of groundwater aquifers. This helps in maintaining a sustainable supply of groundwater for agriculture, drinking water, and other purposes.

    2)Flood Control and Disaster Mitigation:

Erosion Control: Effective watershed management helps control soil erosion, reducing the likelihood of flash floods and landslides during heavy rainfall events.

Natural Buffer Zones: Proper land use planning within a watershed can create natural buffer zones, such as wetlands and vegetated areas, which act as sponges to absorb excess water and reduce the intensity of floods. This is crucial for minimizing the impact of natural disasters.

Watershed management not only provides ecological benefits but also supports sustainable development by ensuring the availability of water resources, promoting biodiversity, and reducing the risk of environmental hazards.

    Examples supporting the statement:
    1) Increased Packaging: The shift towards convenience and processed foods has led to increased packaging materials. Single-use plastic packaging, such as food wrappers, containers, and bottles, contributes significantly to non-biodegradable waste.
    2) Electronic Waste (e-waste): Advancements in technology have resulted in a higher turnover of electronic devices. Discarded electronics, including old smartphones, computers, and other electronic gadgets, contribute to electronic waste, which often contains hazardous materials and poses environmental challenges.

    Change to reduce non-biodegradable waste:

    • Reduce Single-Use Plastics: One significant change in lifestyle is to minimize the use of single-use plastics. Individuals can adopt the following practices:
    • Reusable Bags: Use reusable bags instead of disposable plastic bags when shopping.
    • Water Bottles: Carry a reusable water bottle to reduce the reliance on single-use plastic water bottles.
    • Containers: Option for reusable containers for food storage instead of disposable plastic containers.
    • Refill Stations: Choose products with refillable options to reduce packaging waste.

By consciously making such changes, individuals contribute to the reduction of non-biodegradable waste, promote sustainability, and help mitigate the environmental impact of excessive waste generation.

The arrangement of metals in the vertical column in the order of decreasing reactivity is called reactivity series or activity series. When a metal placed above hydrogen in the activity series, it means it will displace hydrogen from acids or water. Secondly, when a metal placed at the top (of the activity series), it would displace metal below it. In brief, a more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal from its salt solution.

    a) Noopur is suffering from myopia, also known as nearsightedness. In myopia, distant objects appear blurry, while close objects can be seen more clearly.
    b) For myopia correction, a concave lens is needed. The power of the lens is given as -4.5D. The negative sign indicates that it is a concave lens. The focal length (f) of the lens can be calculated using the formula:

    f= (-1)/4.5= -0.22 cm,as concave lens.

    c) Defective Eye (Myopia):
Parallel rays from a distant object converge in front of the retina, causing a blurry image. The image formed is in front of the retina.

Correction with Concave Lens: Parallel rays are diverged by the concave lens.
The diverged rays appear to come from a virtual focus point, resulting in the formation of a clear image on the retina.
Please note that drawing accurate ray diagrams requires specific measurements and angles, but a basic representation can be made to illustrate the concept.

    d) Causes of Myopia:
Eyeball Shape: Myopia is often associated with an elongated eyeball, where the distance from the cornea to the retina is too long. And secondly, Due to excess curvature of eye lens.
Genetics: Family history plays a significant role, and individuals with myopic parents are more likely to develop myopia.

Environmental Factors: Excessive near work, such as reading or using digital devices for extended periods, can contribute to the development and progression of myopia.
It’s important for Noopur to consult an eye care professional for a comprehensive eye examination to determine the exact prescription and appropriate corrective measures. Regular eye check-ups are recommended for the timely detection and management of vision-related issues.
