Dr. Sadao’s heart and mind was saying different things ever since he saw Tom on the sea shore. Many times it came to his mind that he should hand over this American to the police or push him back into the sea. The relations between America and Japan were such that civilians too had hatred towards each other in their minds. One day he decided to tell everything to his general and he went and shared with him. The General assured him that the same night his assassins would kill the American and would not allow the body to be traced. Dr. Sadao kept a door open from where Assassin was to come, but the General had forgotten and the American could not be killed. After waiting for the next two days, when no one came to kill him at night, then the doctor prepares to send him to another island with the help of a boat, along with some food and drink. He gave the man his flashlight. He was to signal twice with his flashlight at sunset in case his food ran out. In case, he was still there and all right, he was to signal only once. That’s how he gets rid of that man.

These are two stories based on two true events of two distant cultures of two people. But there is discrimination with both. One faces the racial discrimination and other faces caste discrimination. Zitkala-Sa faced racial discrimination because Europeans which used to do a lot with Native Americans. She described the deep misery of having her heritage stripped away when she was forced to pray like others and to cut her traditionally long hair. The horrific experience of her boarding school has shocked all readers.
The second tale depicts the struggles and humiliations faced by young Indian dalit woman. Since she used to belong to a low caste, she was considered as untouchable. Talking with her is a far cry, taking water from her hand and even sitting together was avoided. She felt very bad that she was not considered normal just because her caste was different.
This discrimination was normal until mid 20th century in many countries but after that many movements were launched against it and now it has been controlled. But it has been very painful for those who have faced these problems then. Hence, the discrimination was done with both in different manners.

The speed with which Derry runs towards his house to meet Mr. Lamb again clears that Lamb’s words had awakened his slept feelings and amazing energy had started coming out of him.He runs away happily and excitedly to meet him as he feels that today he has found a special friend.This friend could change his life forever. Post this he will love himself and will not care what people think or say about him. Maybe that’s why today he came to this garden that his perception is about to change towards life.
Mr. Lamb on the other hand had filled him with confidence and taught the art of loving himself and then he passed away. Maybe Derry just needs Lamb’s long support which was missing till date which causes him to go back to the seclusion. If he had got a little more time to spend with Mr. Lamb, his world could have changed forever. His friendship was not even to the next level that Mr. Lamb said goodbye to the world.I can’t rule out the possibility that Derry might go back to the seclusion.
