1 Answer

  1. The atmosphere acts as a protective blanket by regulating thermal energy exchange. During the day, clouds and atmospheric gases absorb and reflect a portion of solar radiation, shielding the surface from excessive heating. At night, greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor trap the outgoing infrared radiation re-emitted by the Earth, preventing extreme freezing and maintaining a habitable climate.
