Flowers, fruits and vegetables get different colours due to pigments present in chromoplasts. These pigments produce red, yellow or orange colours, making plant parts attractive.

  1. Plants acquire varied colours because of pigments present in plastids called chromoplasts. These pigments include carotenoids and others that give red, yellow and orange colours. The colours help attract pollinators and animals for seed dispersal. Chlorophyll gives green colour, while other pigments create diversity in plant appearance.
