Inverse refers to the opposite or reverse of something. In mathematics it often involves operations that undo each other. For example the inverse of addition is subtraction and the inverse of multiplication is division. Inverse functions reverse the effect of a given function when applied to its output.

The inverse of a number is its additive inverse, which means the number that, when added to the original, equals 0. For +7, its inverse is -7 because: +7 + (-7) = 0
