Straight lines form the foundation of coordinate geometry and play a vital role in mathematics. The CBSE 2024-2025 NCERT Class 11th syllabus covers important topics like the slope of a line different forms of line equations conditions for parallel and perpendicular lines and the distance of a point from a line. Multiple-choice questions are designed to help students test their understanding and improve problem-solving skills. Regular practice of these MCQs enhances accuracy and logical reasoning. A clear grasp of straight lines is essential for board exams and competitive exams as it builds a strong base for advanced mathematical concepts.

  1. Choice (b) is correct.
Let the intercepts on the axes be a and a respectively.
    The equation of the line is x/a + y/a = 1 ⇒ x + y = a
Since the line passes through the point (1, 2), their coordinates must satisfy the equation (1).
    1 + 2 = a ⇒ a = 3
Putting the value of a in (1), the equation of the line is x + y = 3.
