      Let OB is vertical pole in the figure.
      In triangle AOB, by pythagoras theorem
      AB² = OB² + OA²
      ⇒ 24² = 18² + OA²
      ⇒ 576 = 324 + OA²
      ⇒ OA² = 252
      ⇒ OA = 6 √7m
      Hence, the distance of stake from the base of the pole is 6 √7m.
