      The first Bharat Ratna award was conferred upon (D) C. V. Raman. Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, an eminent Indian physicist, was honored with the Bharat Ratna in 1954. C. V. Raman’s groundbreaking work in the field of physics, particularly in the scattering of light, earned him global recognition. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for the discovery that bears his name, the “Raman Effect.”
      The Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, was instituted in 1954, and C. V. Raman holds the distinction of being the first recipient of this prestigious honor. His contributions to science and his pioneering research continue to be celebrated as integral to India’s scientific heritage.
