Bairam Khan, Akbar’s powerful regent, fell from power in 1560 AD. His authority began to clash with Akbar’s desire for independent rule and the intrigues of the harem faction (Atka Khel). Following a brief rebellion, Akbar deposed him, marking the end of the regency and the beginning of Akbar’s direct rule. The correct answer is (A) 1560 AD.

  1. Bairam Khan was relieved of his duties as Akbar’s regent and effectively fell from power in 1560 AD. This event, known as the “Petticoat Government” (a period of influence by harem women), was triggered by Akbar’s growing assertiveness and the intrigues led by Maham Anga. Akbar forced Bairam Khan to retire and go on a pilgrimage to Mecca, during which the former regent was assassinated in Gujarat. His removal was necessary for Akbar to assume full, direct control over his empire.
