Deficiency diseases happen when the body lacks essential nutrients like vitamins or minerals. Examples are anaemia (lack of iron), scurvy (lack of vitamin C) and goitre (lack of iodine). Proper diet prevents them.

  1. Deficiency diseases are caused by the lack of specific nutrients in the diet. If our body doesn’t get enough vitamins or minerals, it becomes weak and prone to illnesses. For example, lack of iron causes anaemia, lack of iodine causes goitre and lack of vitamin D leads to weak bones. These diseases are preventable through a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables, grains and dairy products to meet all nutritional needs.
