The numerous pores under the surface of leaf are called stomata. Transpiration and exchange of gases (carbon dioxide and oxygen) are the main functions of stomata.

Stomata are small pores in plant leaves that help in breathing and releasing water vapor. They play two vital roles: first, by taking in carbon dioxide (CO2) for plants to make food through photosynthesis, and second, by releasing oxygen (O2) into the air. Stomata also control the amount of water a plant loses, which is important for keeping the plant hydrated and healthy.
