Notice the concentration of lighting in the plains. What could be the reason for this concentration?

  • 2

The plains have dense populations, leading to a higher concentration of electric lights seen from satellite images. Flat terrain, fertile land and better infrastructure attract cities, towns and villages. More people and industries mean more electricity usage, hence the brighter illumination.

1 Answer

  1. Satellite images often show bright lights over northern plains like the Ganga Basin. This is due to high population density, urbanization and agriculture-based economies. The flat land allows easy construction of roads, houses and industries. People live closer together, using electricity for homes, streetlights and factories. Unlike mountainous or forested regions with fewer settlements, plains support more infrastructure. This results in dense clusters of lighting, especially visible during nighttime from space.
