  1. The narrator makes assumptions by thinking that her grandmother is too old to learn. She believes that elderly people cannot study or succeed in learning new things. Without understanding her grandmother’s determination, she laughs at her. This shows her limited thinking. Later, she realises that her assumption was wrong when her grandmother successfully learns to read.
