What were the truth about life that Gautama Buddha explained?

In his first sermon, Gautama Buddha preached that human life is very short and it is full of sorrows and pains. Death is common to all. We cannot console ourselves by weeping and grieving. The wise and intelligent persons know that death and sorrows are the realities and truth of our lives. No one can escape from death so we should not grieve on death.
