The ramp at a loading dock rises 2.5 metres over a run of 4 metres. Find the slope of the ramp.

  • 1

Slope equals vertical rise divided by horizontal run. Substituting the given values gives slope = 2.5 / 4 = 5 / 8 = 0.625. Thus, the slope of the loading ramp is 0.625.

  1. The formula for the slope of an inclined surface is Rise divided by Run. Here, the vertical rise is given as 2.5 metres and the horizontal run is given as 4 metres. Dividing the rise by the run yields slope = 2.5 / 4. Multiplying the numerator and denominator by 2 gives 5/8, which equals 0.625. Hence, the slope is 5/8 or 0.625.
