A merchant in the port city of Lothal is exchanging bags of spices for copper ingots. He receives 15 ingots for every 2 bags of spices. If he brings 12 bags of spices to the market, how many copper ingots will he leave with?

The merchant gets 15 ingots for every 2 spice bags. To find the total for 12 bags, divide 12 by 2 to get 6 pairs, then multiply 6 by 15, resulting in 90 copper ingots.

  1. The exchange rate between the goods establishes a direct proportional relationship. The merchant receives 15 copper ingots for every 2 bags of spices. Since he brings a total of 12 bags of spices to the market, we can find the number of pairs by dividing 12 by 2, which gives 6 pairs. Multiplying these 6 units by the 15 ingots per pair results in a total of 90 copper ingots.

  2. So, as per to the question,
The merchant received 15 copper ingots in exchange for 2 spice bags.
    This means ,
    2 spice = 15 copper
    1 spice = 15/2 copper
If the merchant brought 12 spice bags,
    12 spice = (15/2)12
    = 90 copper ingots
Hence, the merchant will left with 90 copper ingots if he brought 12 spice bags to the market.
