What has remained the same and what has changed with this reflection?

In a reflection across an axis, the shape, size and the coordinate corresponding to that axis remain the same. However, the sign of the other coordinate and the orientation (right-to-left) change.

  1. When a figure is reflected, its dimensions and area remain identical, meaning the shape is congruent to the original. If reflected across the y-axis, the y-coordinates stay the same, but the x-coordinates change their sign (positive becomes negative). The orientation also changes, effectively “flipping” the image. For example, a point at (3, 4) reflected across the y-axis moves to (–3, 4). The vertical height stays the same while the horizontal side flips.
