“The length of the small intestine in various animals depends on the food they eat.” Justify the statement.

In herbivores, the small intestine is very long because plant-based food, rich in cellulose, takes longer to digest. In carnivores, it is comparatively shorter as meat is easier to digest. Thus, intestine length depends on the type of diet.

  1. Herbivores like cows and rabbits eat plant food, which is rich in cellulose and hard to digest, so they have a longer small intestine for complete digestion and absorption. Carnivores like tigers and lions eat protein-rich, easily digestible food, so they have a shorter small intestine.
