The uttapam spoiled because mould grew on it. Mould is made of thousands of microbes that grow when there is moisture, air and the right temperature, changing the food’s colour, smell and taste.

  1. The uttapam spoiled due to the growth of mould, which is a colony of microbes. Microbes need moisture, air and warmth to multiply. The uttapam, left in a lunchbox for days, provided perfect conditions for their growth. As a result, it developed coloured patches, a bad smell and became unsafe to eat.
