  1. Edward Jenner was a British doctor who found that milkmaids with cowpox didn’t get smallpox. He tested this by giving cowpox to a boy, who later stayed healthy when exposed to smallpox. This experiment led to the discovery of the world’s first vaccine. His idea of using mild viruses to build immunity saved millions from smallpox and led to global vaccination efforts that finally eradicated the disease in 1980.
