How much water there is on Earth?

Most of Earth is covered with water, but only a tiny part is freshwater. If all Earth’s water were a full glass, the usable freshwater would be just a teaspoon—very small and precious.

  1. Although about 71% of Earth is covered in water, most of it is salty and found in oceans. Only a small portion—around 2.5%—is freshwater. And of that, much is locked in glaciers. So, the actual usable freshwater is very limited. To compare, if all the water on Earth were a full glass, the drinkable freshwater would be just one teaspoon.
